Happy New Year!
It’s the first day of 2014 and my Hickory Chair Chelsea Bed is finally complete.
The bed has actually been complete for about a month. We just had no mattress. After waiting 18 days for delivery, the bed would not fit up our staircase. Because the mattress was so rigid, it did not give at all. It was a sad moment. I cried and fussed at the customer service rep but in the end, we got our refund and started our search again.
On New Years Eve, our 3rd choice Memory Foam mattress was delivered.
I wasted no time dressing the bed up and I’m not going to waste any time showing off my completed Hickory Chair Inspired Chelsea Bed.
I’m going to warn you, I’m a little proud so there are a ton of photos. Stay tuned on Friday for the details of how the headboard was constructed and how I had to modify the bed to fit the new mattress.
The mattress does not fit snug in the frame because I wanted to allow room to tuck the linens.
Once the linens were added, you cannot see the slats.
The overall height of the bed from floor to the top of the headboard is 58″. It’s pretty substantial for our 90″ ceilings on the second floor.
For those of you like me who need details to really “envision” the space I’ve jotted some dimensions in the photo below.
The mattress sits at 27″ from the floor but only sits 2″ into the bed frame. Just enough to keep it from sliding around.
I’m still working on window treatments so ignore them for now.
I was super nervous the first time I laid on the bed. Even though I tried to build it as strong as possible, I just knew we would go crashing to the floor as soon as we sat on it.
But the bed is rock solid. It doesn’t squeak, creak or rattle.
We’ve been sleeping in the other room for so long that the hubs said he woke up in the middle of the night thinking he was in a hotel.
I really love the linens. I stumbled upon this duvet online and after seeing it, I didn’t want anything else. I searched for a month for a lower priced option but gave up when this one went on sale. Its called the Harper Grey Duvet by Blissliving Home and can be purchased from Nordstrom.com.
I’ve still got tons of accessorizing to do but this is a good start. This duvet has gold metallic accents so expect to see a little of that throughout the room.
Hence the French Natural nailheads.
I’m so happy to finally be able to show you the end result of my hard work.
Remember to come back Friday for the headboard tutorial.
