Home Improvement Goals for 2013 Pt. 2

In true blogging fashion, I’m back with part two of …

Home Goals 2013

Last week I focused on the Kitchen, Mudroom and Entryway.  Today I’m going to focus on the Dining Room and the Master Bedroom.  Neither will get a complete gut but I plan on making them more attractive they they currently are.

Master Bedroom

I spend more than eight hours of the day in here but it’s normally in the dark with my eyes closed.  Every piece of furniture hailed from our bachelor and bachelorette days. The most decorating I did was to have a photo from our wedding framed and put on the wall along with the vinyl decals. They read “So in Love…with you”

Goals for 2013 130111(1 of 2) Goals for 2013 130111(2 of 2)

  1. Paint the bedroom a neutral but welcoming color

  2. Sell current bedroom furniture on Craigslist

  3. Remove the mini-blinds and replace with light filtering privacy shades

  4. Make drapes for both windows

  5. Build a King size bed frame

  6. Make art for over the bed

  7. DIY a huge leaning floor mirror

  8. Find and refurbish a set of chairs for the room

  9. Replace ceiling fan with a more design forward light fixture

  10. Purchase the perfect lamps for the bedside tables

  11. Purchase new dressers and bedside tables

  12. Purchase a King size mattress set

  13. Upgrade the bathroom, closet and entry doors within the room

  14. Purchase a rug for under the bed

  15. Find out what is behind that wall near the window for future renovations

I’m really going for that “collected over time, found” look for our Master bedroom. I absolutely do not want it to have that Rooms to go look like I bought the display.

Although we are trying to get away from the platform bed, these styles are OK because they stand higher off the floor. I’m really into the reclaimed wood look.

At the same time, I want the room to have a little bit of glam as well.

Formal Dining Room

This room has come a long way since we moved in but it has an even longer way to go. This room is 14 feet wide by 25 feet long .  I’ve got two very long walls that are begging for some attention. Not one thing in this room was purchased for this house.  Everything came from our bachelor and bachelorette pads.

  1. Install new hardwood floors that flow into the entryway and kitchen as I mentioned here here

  2. Hire an electrician to replace and install several pot lights

  3. Have a contractor re-open and widen the doorway to the family room and  to the kitchen as I mentioned here

  4. Sell the dining room table & bench on Craigslist

  5. Build a new larger dining room table

  6. Build a console/buffet

  7. Make custom slip covers for the existing dining room chairs

  8. Update the fireplace screen

  9. Make drapes for the patio doors.

  10. DIY several art pieces

  11. Replace the ceiling fan with a large fancy light fixture

  12. Purchase two contrasting dining room chairs for the new table

  13. Sell the current area rug on Craigslist

  14. Purchase a very large rug for underneath the new dining table

  15. Build a modular beverage station in the corner near the fireplace

  16. Figure out a way to update the overall look of the fireplace

I love the bright and airy look of this dining room.  The Chandelier is also an eye catcher.  I adore the pops of color amongst the neutral decor.  I also love the mix of wood with other materials.

The dining room below has a really classy look that I can almost see in our dining room. That large dining table is the Pièce de résistance and who doesn’t love the linen slip covers?

So that concludes the never-ending list of home renovation goals for 2013.  Do you think I will be able to pull it off or are you thinking “no way?”  Well, you will just have to wait and see.
